Our family received devastating news this week.

My brother-in-law, Kevin ("Coach Kevin" to many in our community), was rushed to the emergency room earlier this week after months of declining health. Doctors discovered a large tumor in his chest that is putting dangerous pressure on his heart and lungs. He is currently hospitalized at the University of Michigan with poor blood flow, low oxygen, and elevated blood pressure. He is scheduled for emergency surgery to place a stent in his heart, and that's just the first step.

A biopsy was performed earlier this week, and we are anxiously awaiting answers. While we don't know yet what type of tumor Kevin has, we do know that the road ahead will involve extensive medical care, time away from work, and significant financial challenges.

Kevin has spent his life serving others - coaching, mentoring, encouraging, and showing up for people when they needed him most. Now it's our turn to show up for him.

We’re aiming to raise $50k to cover an extended time off of work and medical bills for months ahead, for Kevin and his wife Brittany.

What Comes Next

Regardless of what the biopsy reveals, Kevin is facing a long road ahead. He will be unable to work for an extended period - through active treatment and into recovery.

His wife Brittany has been with him every step of the way as his dedicated advocate and caregiver. But that means Brittany will also need to step back from her own work to be there for Kevin - managing appointments, medications, and everything in between that comes with caring for someone you love through a serious illness.

In addition to these challenges, Kevin’s union health insurance coverage is based on an hour bank system - meaning he may not have it for much longer.

That leaves this family - which includes their beloved pups Oakley and Rex - facing significant financial need.
