Rally for Kathy McKeown—A True Fighter Battling Liver Cancer
Donation protected

On July 9, 2024, our dear friend Kathy McKeown was diagnosed with an aggressive form of liver cancer. Having undergone radiation treatment in September, she now urgently needs a liver transplant to survive. Kathy is on the list and waiting. The cost of medical treatments, transplant procedures, post recovery and ongoing care is overwhelming, and we are rallying our community to support her during this fight.
A Legacy of Strength & Love
For over 35 years, Kathy has dedicated her life to shaping young minds and leading with compassion as an educator and principal. Growing up here in Laguna, she is a former standout volleyball player at Laguna Beach High School and the University of Notre Dame. A single, loving and devoted mother since the day her daughter Lexi turned 3, she has worked tirelessly to provide for her child, ensuring she had every opportunity. Indeed, Lexi, a 4th generation Laguna local, is a bright, hardworking student-athlete and graduate of the University of California, Berkeley. In May, she will be graduating from Vanderbilt University and pursuing her career in Genetic Counseling. Lexi has dedicated her life to excelling both in the classroom and on the volleyball court.
Now, Kathy needs our help in her fight.
Her Battle & How You Can Help
And fight she does! She continues to work and you’ve likely seen her on the pickleball court, hiking with her dog Java, or spending time at events with friends. Indeed, she’s tackling this as she has done whenever challenged; with faith, determination, perseverance and a smile on her face. Everyone in Laguna Beach who knows her adores her. She is the kindest, most loving, and selfless person—a bright light in all of our lives. She has given so much to her students, her colleagues, family and friends, and to our town. Now, it’s time for us to give back to her.
Every dollar raised will go directly toward covering the following costs and ensuring Kathy has the support she needs.
Medical expenses not covered by insurance including premiums, deductibles, co-pays and 10% co-insurance
Relocation to temporary housing and living expenses for a minimum of 3 months post surgery
Full time caregiver costs post transplant for a minimum of 3 months
Post transplant medical care needs not covered by insurance: immunotherapy, checkups
If, in the unfortunate event that Kathy does not receive a liver in time, all funds will be applied to medical bills, funeral services, and to help Lexi to continue on without her.
Please Donate & Share
We kindly ask for your support so we can help Kathy afford the life-saving transplant and care she desperately needs. Any amount, big or small, will make a difference. If you are unable to donate, please share this campaign with others who might be able to help, and keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
Let’s come together to give her the fighting chance she deserves.
Thank you for your love, generosity, and prayers!
With gratitude,
Lexi & Team Kathy ❤️
