Many of you know Joe Byrd as a champion, mentor, and cornerstone of the ATV motocross community—AKA ‘Dirty Byrd.’
From capturing back-to-back national titles—including the first AMA-sanctioned Pro ATV National Championship in 2007—to shaping generations of riders as a Honda factory racer, Joe’s legacy reaches far beyond the track. His passion, leadership, and commitment to the sport have inspired riders and families across the country.
Now, Joe and his wife Malerie are facing a challenge far greater than any race.
Joe was recently diagnosed with Stage IV renal cell carcinoma after months of worsening pain over the last 8–10 weeks.
Anyone who knows Joe understands how independent and strong he has always been, and it took a lot for him to allow me, as his friend, to step in and share this journey. But this is a time when support matters more than pride, and he and Malerie should not have to walk this road alone.
Joe had his port placed on January 6, 2026, and received his first immunotherapy treatment of Keytruda on January 9, 2026. He will begin the chemo pill Inlyta tomorrow. The financial reality of this fight is overwhelming—Inlyta has been quoted at $10,000–$23,000 per month, and each Keytruda infusion is approximately $35,000, with no clear picture yet of what insurance will cover. We will not know more until his PET scan on January 21, and his next Keytruda treatment is scheduled for January 29, 2026.
The months ahead will be filled with treatments at Kirkland Cancer Center, frequent appointments, travel, and time away from work. Along with the emotional toll, the practical and financial burdens are heavy, and any support will make a meaningful difference.
• Donations will be used to help offset medical bills, expensive medications, travel, time away, and covering meals to lighten daily responsibilities.
Please continue the prayers for strength, healing, and peace in the days ahead as
Joe’s prognosis is not known at this time.
Joe has always faced life with courage and determination. Let’s rally together for Joe and Malerie to support them through this battle.
