Today, I reach out to share the story of an extraordinary woman who deserves our support more than anyone I know. Jen is not just a devoted special education teacher; she is a beacon of hope and strength for her students and their families. Her unwavering commitment to her students has inspired many, and now, as she faces an incredibly tough battle with cancer, it’s our turn to rally behind her.

A Journey Marked by Courage

Jen has always approached life with resilience and grace. This past summer was particularly challenging as she underwent a double mastectomy following a diagnosis of invasive lobular carcinoma, alongside invasive ductal carcinoma, with precancerous conditions on the other side. As anyone who has faced such trials knows, cancer can be a relentless opponent, and Jen's journey is a testament to her bravery.

Despite the physical and emotional toll, she continued to provide support and care for her students, even as she navigated a schedule filled with surgeries, treatments, and medical appointments at the University of Michigan. Each session required taking significant time off work, making this arduous journey all the more taxing for her family.

Recently, however, Jen discovered another mass. After persistent advocacy for further testing, she received the devastating news that she has cancer again. The uncertainty surrounding whether this is a recurrence or residual cancer from her previous surgery weighs heavily on her heart and mind. With upcoming tests, procedures, and a corrective surgery still ahead, Jen finds herself juggling a plethora of appointments, unexpected challenges, and the ever-present need for healing.

A Community Rallying Together

Throughout this difficult time, Jen’s husband and children have been her steadfast support, but the emotional and financial strain is palpable. They have walked alongside her through brain surgery, jaw surgery, and now this relentless battle against cancer. It’s clear that the burden is heavy, and they could use our help.
