Help us help Jeff and Penny.

The outpouring of support from the SOB community and beyond has completely overwhelmed Penny and I. The financial assistance from the GoFund Me effort has been an absolute blessing to us as we wrestle with considerable non-reimbursable medical expenses from my Mexico "Recreational Misadventure". The numerous calls, visits, and offers to assist us in any way possible has shown us what a truly unique and special Family this SOB community represents. All of you will always occupy a loving place in our "hearts" forever.

I am now just over eight weeks out from surgery, and am way ahead on cardiac rehab goals, with a full recovery expected within a few more months, and, an eagerly anticipated return to volleyball and all other activities.

Thank you is not really enough, but please know of our profound gratitude!"

See you on the sand- Jeff Sky and Penny Walker

JEFF HAS A NEW HEART, AND A SECOND BIRTHDAY!

On Monday, December 2nd, one of the "OG" members of our SOB/volleyball community had a life-changing event while playing volleyball at the Hard Rock Hotel in Puerto Vallarta. Jeff Sky had a cardiac arrest mid-game. Thanks to his partner, fellow players, his wife, and the quick thinking Lifeguards and Hard Rock staff, CPR was started immediately, saving his life. Soon thereafter, an AED was found, connected and deployed, and his heart was restarted preventing ancillary damage. He was taken to the local hospital and 48 hours later had open heart surgery. He has since recovered steadily and quickly from triple bypass surgery. He was discharged from the hospital in Puerto Vallarta a week later and was allowed to fly home December 13th. This journey and the end result can only be described as miraculous.

Jeff and Penny have served as our "in house" medical staff on countless SOB Vacations, offering Players everything from advice on sunburns, "Mexico" stomach, or aches and pains; to stitching up a nose after a sunglasses ejecting "6-pack". In the early SOB days, we would try to schedule Jeff on a court within earshot so we could grab him quickly in an emergency. And the last few years, he could be found daily at Camp Pennyton (palapa 4, row 2), recovering from his 7am Breakfast Club games and preparing for a mid-morning massage. He also has gladly filled in for us in random tournament slots helping to round out the draw.

As anyone who has needed medical care in Mexico knows, it is a cash pay system. The good news is Jeff received fantastic care. The corresponding medical bills were quite steep and worth every cent ... or peso. Jeff and Penny have been there for all of us over the years. We are reaching out to friends, family and the volleyball community in an effort to return the favor and help them out. If you have the ability, please feel free to donate. All donations will go directly to the medical bills accrued while in Mexico.

We look forward to seeing both of these amazing humans back on the beach with us next year. The doctors said Jeff's heart was in great shape, and with his new "bypasses", he should get another 20-30 years out of his ticker. And rumour has it he stole his Mexican Hospital nightgown in preparation for white night next year.

Thank you in advance,

Tom Davenport (SOB Volleyball Vacations)
Julie Widdison (Jeff's favorite daughter)
