Our friend Jay is in legal trouble after getting in a scrap in Southern Illinois. The charges against him, brought by the local prosecutor, are very aggressive and include exaggerated Felony charges that could result in a multiple years in prison. While it's clear the prosecutor is reaching, Jay is from out of state and largely unknown in that community. He has hired the best attorney in the area to defend him, but that comes at a significant cost. He's traveled to Illinois for hearings on FOUR separate occasions now, missing work (and wages) only to be sent back home because the court wasn't prepared, or the prosecutor's plea offer was laughably unacceptable.

And then, to add injury to insult, an infection led to Jay getting all his teeth pulled. ALL OF THEM! The profile pic you see is Jay post-surgery. This was at the end of December. He's still waiting for dentures as of April 18.

The lawyer costs and missed work from trials and surgeries have put him in a hole that he's really struggling to dig himself out of. I'm hoping friends and family can rally to help. I know the $10K target may seem a little aggressive, but it will cover less than half of the debt that he has incurred.
