Rally for Hugh Chang

Hello all. My name is Shyanne Chang. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to read this and consider donating to a medical fund for my dad, Hugh Chang.

Dad was diagnosed with colon cancer on December 20, 2015. That day turned his world upside down. It started a series of visits to doctors’ offices, emergency rooms and hospital stays that continues to the present day.

For those who know my dad, I don’t have to tell you about his work ethic, cheerful personality, community involvement or willingness to help others. Going the extra mile for someone is not uncommon for dad.

He has been employed at Keyes Packaging (now TekniPlex) for more than 17 years. He works directly with many businesses and fruit warehouses in Wenatchee, Cashmere, Leavenworth, Brewster, Chelan and beyond. You may have seen him making his rounds in a blue flatbed semi-truck loaded with bails of cardboard and office paper that he collects to be recycled at the mill.

Outside of work, he has been a wrestling coach for 24 years in East Wenatchee including head coach of the girls’ wrestling program at Eastmont High School and eventually becoming the head coach for both the boys’ and girls’ programs.

After his cancer diagnosis, my dad spent more than his fair share of time in the hospital. His first and second surgeries in 2017 involved removing the colon followed by chemo treatments. Since then, intestinal blockages have landed him in the emergency room more than 20 times.

Today, dad is laying in a hospital bed at Confluence Health in Wenatchee receiving treatment and recovering from his most recent surgery.

He is courageous in this fight but the financial hardship is taking a toll on him (and his family) and ultimately (and reluctantly) we are asking for your financial support. Insurance, PTO, and vacation time only go so far before all is exhausted. This last emergency surgery alone has kept my dad in the hospital since February 4th with an undetermined release date at this point.

Our family is moved by the support of family, friends and co-workers that have rallied for dad.
