Hello, my name is Paula and I started this GoFundMe for my friend/colleague Heidi Flynn. A lot of people may know her as “the cookie lady” because she’s the owner of “Heidi’s Sugar Shack”. Some may also know her as their hygienist. On February 14, Heidi was diagnosed with a rare form of breast cancer, “triple negative invasive carcinoma breast cancer.” She and her family need our help. Although they have insurance, their deductible is in the thousands. Heidi and her husband Charlie have two sweet children, Eleanor and Lucas, whom she homeschools. Unfortunately, with the aggressive nature of her treatments, it’s unlikely she’ll be able to work at the dental office, and she’ll have to put her cookie business on hold for up to a year. She will have 24 weeks of chemotherapy treatments followed by surgery, then radiation, and then at least a year of immunotherapy. Charlie is working in Frederick, but besides their normal cost of living, their expenses will only increase, and with only one income, they really need us to come together as a community to help her and her family through the toughest time of her life.
