My name is Nicole Avila, and I'm writing to you today with a heavy heart, but also with unwavering hope. As many of you know, I've shared a deep and enduring friendship with Gabi for nearly four decades – since the seventh grade, to be exact. We've navigated the rollercoaster of life together, from the carefree days of adolescence to the profound joys and sorrows of adulthood.

This year marks Gabi's 50th birthday, a milestone that should be filled with joy and celebration. Instead life has dealt her a devastating blow. On February 12th, Gabi, her husband Michael, and their beloved dog Mellow were involved in a horrific head-on collision on Frazier Lake Road. The impact was severe. Gabi was immediately intubated and sedated, remaining unconscious for three agonizing days. During this time, she had several blood transfusions, underwent four major surgeries to address a broken hip, a lacerated liver, and the critical damage sustained to her lower intestine and colon.

Michael also suffered debilitating injuries, two fractured feet, several fractured toes, torn ligaments in both knees as well as pelvic and abdominal injuries which will keep him out of work for some time.

Mellow was also a little roughed up in the accident and needs a trip to the vet to get checked out.

While she's now recovering, the road ahead is long and challenging. After her hospital stay, Gabi will be transferred to a skilled nursing facility for extensive rehabilitation. This means she'll be unable to work for an extended period, placing a significant strain on her and Michael's finances. Their vehicle is totaled, and their current living situation – a small RV at Thousand Trails – is no longer feasible given Gabi's injuries and recovery needs.

This fundraiser is established to help Gabi, Michael, and their fur babies, Mellow and Olivia, navigate this incredibly difficult time. Gabi is one of the most generous, hardworking individuals I know; she’s always the first to lend a helping hand to those in need. Now, it's our turn to rally around her and provide the support she so richly deserves. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in easing their financial burden and ensuring they have the resources they need for Gabi's recovery, medical expenses, and securing a stable living environment.
