Evangeline’s first year as a teenager hasn’t exactly gone the way she planned it. It started off strong, when she applied and was accepted into Utah Arts Academy for high school. She was looking forward to reinventing herself and heading toward new opportunities. But in April, her body decided it had other plans.
She began waking up each day with episodes of nausea and vomiting. What we thought was just a bug ended up being gastroparesis, aka paralysis of the stomach. However, in our search for answers we also discovered that the heart condition that she was diagnosed with at birth had also severely worsened, and in addition to her stomach issue she would be facing heart surgery as well.
Since April, we have been very busy with doctor’s appointments, tests, procedures, traveling to and from Primary Children’s Hospital in both SLC and Lehi regularly, and things we didn’t expect that she would need to prepare her for heart surgery that insurance does not cover, such as cardiac rehab and even dental work.
We never wanted to start a GoFundMe. We were determined to do this on our own. But with the travel expenses and medical debt starting to pile up especially with Max needing to take extra time off work to help out with the long-distance trips, we finally have to admit that we could use some help.
Evangeline is facing down a road of uncertainty. She has been an absolute trooper through it all and I would say has handled it much better than I have. But she has a lot more to get through and could use as much support as possible. Any generosity is so appreciated. Thank you.
