Rally for Esme: Overcoming Leukemia

Our hearts are heavy (but not without hope) as we share what’s transpired for our dear niece, Esme Adeline, over this past weekend.

On Friday, February 7th, after a week of illness with no improvement, Annie and Kiel trusted their intuition and brought Esme into the emergency room. By Friday evening, their worst nightmare came to life when they were faced with Esme’s devastating diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).

This diagnosis, as you can imagine, has been a complete shock and has totally shattered Annie and Kiel. Right now there are more questions than answers and the waiting is excruciating.

The goal right now is to get Esme to a more stable condition so the medical team can collect samples (bone marrow, spinal fluid) that will help determine her exact treatment. Once that information is known, she’ll begin an intensive round of therapies for the first phase of her treatment. This will require them to stay in the hospital for the next thirty-ish days.

What we do know is that this is going to be a very long and difficult road for Esme, Annie, and Kiel. We also know there is a giant circle of love and support out there to see them through.

In the next few days/weeks, we’ll all know more about the best ways to show up for their family and support them both emotionally and logistically.

For now, if you’re able to make a financial contribution, it would be graciously received. Long-term medical costs are unknown so every bit will help.
