We are coming together to support an extraordinary woman, Elizabeth Blythe — a respected bloodstock agent, mentor, and friend — who is currently facing the toughest battle of her life. After years of helping clients, colleagues, and horses alike with unwavering dedication, she is now fighting through another possible cancer diagnosis and the exhausting surgeries and treatments that come with it.
As a bloodstock agent, Elizabeth is known for her sharp eye, deep knowledge of pedigrees, and integrity. She’s helped shape the careers of countless horses and horse people alike. She is responsible for the matings of 95/96 Horse of the Year and 1995 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner, Cigar, and other Breeders’ Cup winners: Ajina, Eliza, Escena and Fraise. All except Fraise were also Eclipse Awards winners.
Over the past 5 years, she has been diagnosed with multiple forms of cancer, each requiring surgery and treatment. After much testing and research, she learned that all these cancers are due to a pathologic mutation in the ATM gene, which she inherited from her mother. With this, 50% of children from the parent will inherit the mutation. The ATM gene is supposed to find and destroy precancerous cells but with the mutation, the gene doesn’t function properly resulting in more occurrences of precancerous cells advancing to cancers. Despite her courage and relentless spirit, the physical and emotional toll has made it nearly impossible for her to continue working in the industry she loves — an industry she has devoted her entire career to. Now, she’s facing foreclosure on her home on top of mounting medical expenses, travel costs for treatments, and everyday living expenses with little income.
This GoFundMe has been set up to help cover:
• Ongoing cancer treatments and medical costs not covered by insurance
• Travel to and from for treatments
• Mortgage and essential living expenses while she is unable to work
She has spent her life championing the horses and people in this industry — now it’s our turn to champion her. Your support will give her a bit of breathing room during an incredibly difficult time and allow her to focus on what matters most: healing.
Whether you can donate, share, or send words of encouragement, it all makes a difference. Let’s rally behind Elizabeth with the same loyalty, strength, and grit that she’s shown throughout her career.
Thank you for your generosity and support.
