7 months ago, Donavan Frost, found out he has a genetic heart disease called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which is a thickening of the heart wall and valve, which causes a wide range of issues, from shortness of breath to stoppage of the heart, and requires a surgery called a Septal Myectomy on April 14th. They will be going in, stopping his heart for four hours, making a small incision at the top of his heart, and removing the obstruction and thickened walls. They will also be repairing a valve defect he has had since he was a child. He will be in the hospital for a week recovering, with atleast 2 days in ICU. After this surgery, he may require a pacemaker and/or a defibrillator based on how successful the procedure is. It is a surgery with a long recovery process and time of 3 months. Where he works as a Linemen, climbing telephone poles, cherry pickers, and pulling lines all day, which is a physically demanding job, it’s going to be 3 months without work. 3 months of bills piling up. 3 months worth of worrying about things that he shouldn’t be worrying about besides his heart. As we all know, bills add up and add up fast. Things like food, rent, car payments, are going to be the least of his worries, so if we can all come together and help out someone as wonderful as Donavan, who’s always there for us, we as his parents want to do what we can to help in any way possible.
As a young man, you can only imagine how stressful and worrisome this situation is for him and for the rest of us. Donavan is a good, hard working man who supports himself, and is always there for anyone when they need him. He’ll bend over backwards and give you the shirt off his back if you need it. He’s done it for us a countless number of times. He’s bought his mother a vehicle. TWICE, Including the one we have now. He bought his brother a new PS5 just because. And that’s just off the top of my head. He is ALWAYS doing selfless things for others and never asks for anything in return. Over the next few months, Donavan is going to need some help from us. From going to being healthy to finding out he has the same genetic heart defect as a lot of others in his family is very jarring news, and has been a major stressor since his diagnosis. Yet he’s stayed working hard, stayed taking care of his responsibilities, and is facing this head on, and having this surgery will hopefully result in a much better quality and longer happy life afterwards. His little family is the most important thing in the world to him. We just want to make sure it’s as stress free and uncomplicated for him over the next few months. Him and his girlfriend Phylicia work hard to keep a roof over the head of themselves and their little family of cats, reptiles, and dog. We just want to make the next 3-6 months as easy financially as possible for him. Any little bit helps, and thank you so much to anyone that reads, shares, or helps and donates to this fantastic cause and incredible young man.
