My brother, Chad has been an avid sports fan his entire life, even being fortunate enough to have a career as a sports writer. Well, he has definitely shown an athlete's dedication and perseverance these past few months. A few months back, Chad was faced with an impossible decision: undergo 3-4 surgeries over an 8-month period with a 50% chance of saving his leg or proceed with a below-the-knee amputation. He had been battling a serious foot infection that had spread to his bone, in addition to having ligament and tendon damage. As a type 2 diabetic, he was well aware of the healing challenges that he would likely face even with his diligent diabetes management. He worked incredibly hard to maintain his blood sugar within normal ranges and to protect his feet, wearing two pairs of socks and supportive shoes at all times, but somehow an infection set in. He made the decision to proceed with the amputation on December 5th, 2024, and immediately set his mind on his recovery.
Unfortunately, being off work for two and a half months, having to retrofit his house and obtain numerous assistive devices and facing mounting medical bills has created quite a financial strain. We would like to help ease some of the strain. If you are able, we would be very grateful for any assistance in this endeavor. We have been overwhelmed by the kindness from the Danville community, especially the sports community. We also appreciate prayers and well-wishes for his ongoing recovery.
Note: There was a prior gofundme that was previously created by the Danville sports community, but has since been taken down and will be replaced with this one. We are incredibly grateful for those efforts and for those that have already donated.
