Rally for Cary Mitsos' Medical Fund

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Lisa and this campaign is to help raise money for my dad, Cary Mitsos, a family man who has worked hard all his life and has recently experienced very unfortunate health circumstances. He needs help with medical expenses and residual bills as a result of a series of surgeries and a sepsis infection which nearly took his life and has caused him to remain out of work for over 6 months. It all started last June when what should have been a "typical" knee replacement surgery almost turned deadly.

Let's start from the beginning:
• On June 19th, 2018 my father Cary underwent routine knee replacement surgery.
• Five weeks later we rushed him to the hospital with a high fever and flu like symptoms to find out he had sepsis and an aggressive form of MRSA. Two days later a second emergency surgery was scheduled to remove his prosthetic knee and replace it with an antibiotic cement spacer block. He spent ten days in the hospital and an additional 30 days in rehab.
• Finally, after being on antibiotics for 5 months and multiple doctor appointments in between, a third surgery was scheduled for November 16, 2018 to again replace the knee. It seemed like things were finally looking up. Unfortunately there was a complication during surgery as a result of his skin’s compromised state (as a result of the original infection) and a secondary wound opened up parallel to the incision.
• In spite of every effort to promote healing of that wound, on November 22, 2018 (Thanksgiving Day) he ended up back at the emergency room due to excessive bleeding which resulted in another four-night stay in the hospital.
• Things started to look up again and the wound slowly started to heal - or so we thought. On Tuesday, December 18th I received a frantic call from my dad that there was "blood everywhere": his wound had popped open. I rushed over to his home to find nothing short of what could have been a crime scene. We ended up back at the emergency room and a fourth emergency surgery was scheduled the next day coupled with another four nights in the hospital.

Where are we now?
• As of our appointment today, December 26th, 2018, the doctor does not want my father to return to work for a minimum of six to eight weeks (to be determined based on healing). He needs to be in a full leg immobilizer 24/7 for a minimum of four weeks with weekly doctor visits in between.
• Because of the aggressive nature of this strain of MRSA, he's looking at a minimum of an additional 6 months to two years on expensive high dose antibiotics to ensure the infection does not return.
• What should have been a 6-8 week recovery has turned into 6 months of hell and my father's world turned upside down. He has managed all of the trials and tribulations that have been thrown his way thus far, but being out of work for so long with mounting bills is shaking his confidence and taking a heavy toll on his emotional health.

I'm asking you to join me in helping this man whom I am proud to call my father. Whatever you feel comfortable to give WILL make a difference and will be gratefully appreciated. Even if you can't give, please continue to pray for my father. Your kind words and prayers are what has been keeping him going throughout this ordeal. Thank you in advance for your generosity
