So many in the community have asked how they can help-it is time to make room for us all! You’ve probably seen him flipping burgers at school picnics, or volunteering in the youth sailing program, organizing the Library Jazz program, working with him at Hubbarton Forge or any gig on the east coast that needed more brass. And did you know he personally stuffed 3,000 eggs for Easter on the Orwell Green? His young spirit, his wife and sons, the laughter and the energy he brings have touched so many lives, and now it’s our turn.
Our friend and family, artist and musician, Bob Scarpulla on September 29th received the devastating news that his nagging neck pain was an aggressive thyroid cancer which metastasized to his spine and lymph nodes. Within a week of this unexpected news he underwent multiple surgeries over the course of 14 hours at UVM to remove his thyroid, lymph nodes and his crumbling C6 vertebrae. A grueling recovery was followed by radiation and radioactive treatments. Melissa, by his side, missing her work and students at Orwell Village School. With their thanks and the support of the community their boys, James (14) and William (11) were able to maintain a strong sports and music schedule and some sense of stability. To aide in Bobs recovery the family recently moved into a small farmhouse on the Goddard farm. Bob has been unable to work since late September, and while he has insurance, we would love to cover their high deductible. This fundraiser gives everyone a way to do what we all want -to support this family.
How Funds Will Be Used:
All funds raised will go directly toward Bob’s medical expenses, including:
• Insurance deductible, treatment-related costs not covered by insurance
• Out-of-pocket expenses like travel and medications
• All the added expenses that the unpredictable course of cancer takes.
As Melissa wrote, families effected by this type of news know, every single thing changes in the blink of an eye. Nothing feels safe. The fear eats you alive and makes you question everything. They have been brought to their knees. Together lets stand them back up.
Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference. Sharing this page with friends, family, and coworkers is also a huge help.
