For the past year, Bob and Rena Spangler have been on a medical roller coaster. In the midst of ongoing dialysis as he waits for a kidney transplant, Bob has been racked by an onslaught of progressively serious and destructive medical issues, from E. Coli to pneumonia, staph infections to heart failure. On March 30, Bob underwent surgery to replace two valves in his heart that had been severely damaged by infection. Since then, he has been fighting for his life. Bob and Rena have had ER visits, emergency medical transport, surgeries, and procedures attempting to resolve sepsis, unexplained clotting, and system failures.

As you can imagine, the weight of Bob’s medical expenses is laying heavy on Rena’s already exhausted mind. No matter where their journey goes from here, the cost of this season of illness and diagnostic trauma is a cloud over them and their family. We are reaching out to their friends, family, and compassionate folks of all kinds to help lift that cloud.

Those that know Bob and Rena Spangler know them to be many things – wonderful parents, dedicated workers, and loyal friends. But ask anyone what word describes them best, and we’d guess you’d all have one answer. Strong. Bob and Rena are two of the strongest people many of us have ever met. And that’s why our family has been so shaken these past few months. The strongest couple we know needs our help, and we are asking you, our friends and family, to give them a chance to breathe a little easier. Let’s be strong for them now, so that their focus can be where it needs to be – on coming through this in the healthiest, most peaceful way possible.
