Hi everyone,
If you’re part of Bears Twitter, you probably know her as “Aunt Freddie.”
She’s one of those people who makes the community what it is. Always showing up on your timeline, talking Bears, celebrating wins, suffering through losses with the rest of us, and bringing people together. A die-hard Chicago fan through and through.
But more importantly, she’s someone who shows up for people in real life too.
She’s a proud aunt, one of five siblings raised by an incredible single mom, and someone who has dedicated years of her life working with survivors of domestic violence. She’s also been behind the bar for years, not just as a job, but because she genuinely loves connecting with people.
She’s the kind of person who gives everything to others.
And over the past two years, life has thrown everything back at her.
It started with serious medical issues and endless testing as doctors tried to figure out why she was losing her hearing. Then came surgeries, car trouble, and a terrifying situation when her dog began having seizures, leading to thousands of dollars in emergency vet bills and lifelong medication.
And then came the diagnosis no one is ever ready for.
Stage 2 invasive ductal carcinoma.
She fought through a double mastectomy with reconstruction, and thankfully, she was declared cancer-free on January 7th.
But like any real fight, this isn’t over.
Because of her age, she now faces a higher risk of recurrence. That means ongoing testing every few months for years to come, each visit costing hundreds of dollars just to make sure the cancer hasn’t returned.
On top of everything else, the financial burden has been overwhelming.
And if you know Aunt Freddie at all, you know this is the last thing she would ever ask for.
So I’m asking for her.
On Friday, June 19th starting at 12am CST, I will be hosting a 24 hour stream in support of Aunt Freddie, there I will playing random games, and doing everything I can to raise money and support her as she continues her recovery and focuses on staying healthy. A link to that stream is here: https://www.twitch.tv/iamcogs
This is where I’m asking Bears Twitter to do what it does best.
We ride together every Sunday. We argue, we celebrate, we suffer, and we show up. Now we’ve got a chance to show up for one of our own. Please consider donating to help such an amazing person.
Every donation goes toward:
- Ongoing cancer monitoring and medical costs
- Recovery from surgeries
- Unexpected expenses from the past two years
- Helping her get back on stable ground
If you can donate, thank you. Seriously.
If you can’t, sharing this within the Bears Twitter community, or anywhere else means everything.
Let’s rally around Aunt Freddie the same way we rally around this team every week.
Thank you all.
