Time Matters - Pregnant mom battles Stage 4 ColoRectalCancer

I am raising money for my cousin Alysun Zwanzig. Aly is a 25 year old mom, expecting her third baby, and has just found out that she likely has colon cancer. She is waiting on biopsy results to confirm. 

Aly's journey started back in mid January, when she was trying to find out the gender of her baby. Inconclusive tests led the doctors to believe that Aly may have cancer. She was referred to a clinic in Maryland for scans that could be administered in a way that was safe for her baby. These tests came back identifying multiple polyps in the colon, swollen lymph nodes with thickening wall of the colon and tumors. They also identified three masses on her liver, leading to the conclusion this is likely related to cancer of the colon metastasizing. There are also microscopic spots on her kidneys that they have yet to identify.

Aly is still waiting for biopsies to determine if this is in fact cancer and what stage the cancer may be. On the horizon are potential surgeries or treatments that could ultimately terminate her pregnancy. Aly went to Chicago on February 10th to meet with fetal specialists, and was admitted to the hospital for further testing. 

This week will include colon and liver biopsies, as well as an amniocentesis for the baby. 

Aly is a fighter and has started what will likely be a very difficult journey to save both her and her baby's lives. She is in her second trimester and desperately wants to carry this child all the way, even with healthcare providers telling her this may not be possible. While we wait for answers from the doctors, we know there are no good answers here. Fighting for her life very well may cost her the life of her baby, and fighting for the baby's life, may very well cost her own.
