On January 14th 2025, my mom started experiencing severe stomach pain, leading her to UMass hospital. After weeks of tests and waiting, doctors diagnosed her with non-Hodgkin’s MALT lymphoma. They found tumors in her lungs, ovaries, colon, and stomach lining. Though the cancer had spread, we were reassured it was treatable, and we felt hopeful about her recovery journey.
Just two weeks after coming home, her condition worsened—her abdomen filled with fluid, and she grew ill again. Back in the hospital, we received devastating news: she actually has large B-cell lymphoma, a more aggressive form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
This came at a tough time. My mom had just finished her contract at the Shriver School and was excited to start a new job, but she fell ill before she could. Now, she faces four rounds of chemotherapy over the next six months, followed by two years of immunotherapy.
We’re turning to our amazing friends and family to help lighten her load so she can focus on healing. Anyone who knows my mom knows she’s the kind of person who’d give anything to help others. This all happened so fast, and we weren’t prepared for it. Your support during this unexpected time means everything to us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
