Rally Around Chef Taylor Hale

Sonoma helps its own. In times of trouble, we’ve always rallied around each other, lifted each other up, and shared the load.

Today, one of our own could use a little bit of help. Sonoma native Taylor Hale, who owns and operates TaylorMade Party Services as a personal chef and full-service caterer, was diagnosed in January with Atrial Fibrillation and non ischemic cardiomyopathy. She had a procedure in late March that seemed successful, but a week later she contracted Shingles, and on May 1st, after an emergency room visit, it was discovered that the A-Fib had returned and worsened. Unfortunately the onset of Shingles has prevented her doctors from treating her cardiac issues to the fullest extent. And when they can, another procedure is required. When they can proceed with the procedure, they estimate that it’ll be another 2-6 months before recovery.

In the meantime, Taylor’s income has evaporated, as you can imagine. Friends, including myself, begged her to let us help with some sort of fundraiser, but she consistently refused. Like most of us, she’s proud. But week after week without income has become too much of a hardship to bear alone. I can’t begin to tell you how gut-wrenching I KNOW it was for her to finally say, “Okay.”

Taylor has been a mentor of mine for many years. We started baking sourdoughs around the same time, back in 2016. When I got my Sourdough business licensed last year, she was there as a guide, to encourage and motivate me. Until her illness, she shopped for me at Costco and restaurant supply stores out of town, and lugged gallons and vats of foodie items over to my house every week.
No charge. She just did it, because she knows I hate to drive.

What she’s brought to the community: Taylor was the the founding chef of Soup for Seniors, where she made homemade soup and bread to feed between 90-150 seniors every week. She’s a participant and contributor to the Redwood Empire Food Bank’s Sonoma Valley Food Drive, and is a volunteer dog walker/trainer and doggie foster mom for Compassion Without Borders in Santa Rosa. She donates meals weekly to local, low-income, and others who might need a meal, but can’t afford a really good one. I know, I’ve been the recipient a few times. ;)

The $10,350 we hope to raise for her won’t make her life easy. But it will make it a little bit less stressful, we hope. It’ll help with the medical bills and put a dent in the day to day bills that pile up while she’s bedridden, and maybe bring a spark of hope. ;)
