Rally (Again) for Gene

Story

Our mutual friend Gene Sanders needs your help again. After fighting day in and day out to improve his condition following the massive stroke he suffered a few years back, Gene has had another setback. In early October while on a trip with Adam he unfortunately suffered two additional strokes and had to be temporarily hospitalized. Thankfully, these strokes appear to have had a much less severe direct impact, but they nevertheless represent a significant warning sign - enough that it is clear that Gene is in need of regular medical oversight. His family has done it’s best to care for Gene while providing him a comfortable situation in which he could live somewhat independently; however, going forward it is apparent he needs to be in an assisted living facility. So, the decision has been made to move him to a new facility in Annapolis, Maryland. It is good news overall that Gene has been able to reserve a space in this facility. This will give Gene access to regular medical oversight to ensure he is managing his medications properly, receiving needed therapy, proper nutrition and monitoring. He will also be in a situation where he will not be as isolated, with opportunities to socialize – something he has been sorely missing the last few years. The challenge, of course, is that this sort of care is expensive. Gene’s is able to cover most of the expense, but not necessarily all . . . and for what length of time is also a question mark. He needs the help of his family and friends now to help see him through and to ensure he gets the care and attention he needs. Gene is still Gene, but his condition and overall situation continue to be a major challenge. He still struggles with significant deficiencies with speech and mobility. And now he needs help from all of us that have been the beneficiaries of his friendship to ensure he can avoid further setbacks. Gene will be moving into the facility in November, and so the financial obligation will begin accruing immediately. Anything you are able to contribute to help Gene and Adam in this situation would be greatly appreciated. On behalf of Adam and Gene's friends. thank you so much.
