My name is Shailendra (Raj) and I will be an incoming pharmacy student at the University of Nebraska School of Pharmacy. I am looking for financial support on my journey to become a medical professional as a pharmacist. At this point, anything and everything will aid my family and me. Your support will give me an opportunity to receive a higher education and in turn, fulfill the dreams of future individuals in my current position by creating scholarships and donations that lessen their financial burden. Prior to acceptance to pharmacy school, I graduated from Ottawa University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology degree. Additionally, I graduated with distinction in my field, received Summa Cum Laude recognition, and completed my undergraduate career with a 3.96 GPA. However, academic success is not my only passion. During my time as an undergraduate student, I served as a 3-year Resident Assistant for the institution, 4-year collegiate tennis player and captain, 2-year student senate representative, a member of several academic honor societies, and a plethora of other extracurricular activities. After graduation, I studied for the Pharmacy College Admissions Test, scored in the 88th percentile, and received my acceptance letter to UNMC. However, though my past is steeped with academic awards and leadership roles, financial obstacles have always been the biggest challenge to overcome for myself and my family. Attendance at a four-year college would have been impossible if I had not received the Presidential full-tuition scholarship from Ottawa University. It was primarily through this and the perseverance of my family that we have been able to get through financial difficulties. The sheer cost of tuition to UNMC Pharmacy is too large for my family and I to carry alone. The monthly cost of tuition alone will be around $3500 per month per semester.  We are ineligible to receive loans and the scholarships that I can apply for are usually worth $200-1000, which is helpful but no enough to make the cost manageable. It has always been a passion and goal of mine to be a health professional and positively impact the health of my community. I also intend to establish various scholarships for future students that will be in my current position to aid them in their financial burdens. I hope that you will see this as an investment in my education for I know that I will be able to change my environment in an incredibly beneficial way for all. The motivation, dedication, and academics are not the problem. It is financial support that I ask to help me overcome this obstacle of the cost of attendance. Though my goal may be large, I have always believed that it is better to push your potential than not try at all.
