The Rajiv Malhotra Memorial Fund

Donation protected
On March 1, 2015, my beautiful little brother, Rajiv, passed away unexpectedly. Rajiv's diagnosis shortly after birth was a neurological disability. That disability was later classified as autism when that diagnosis became prevalent.   Rajiv lived his 36 short years with that diagnosis, but he did not let it limit him. He chose to ignore its limitations and, instead, lived a fulfilled life on his own terms-- a life filled with music,  friendships, traveling, lots of Starbucks coffee and a family that loved him very, very much.

Most of Rajiv's adult life was spent on the quaint Connecticut shore at a place called Vista Life Innovations (f/k/a Vista Vocational), a 501(c)(3) organization (http://www.vistalifeinnovations.org/).
Rajiv was a member of Vista for nearly 15 years. Vista allowed him to live independently and productively. Vista helped Rajiv find purposeful employment and provided vocational support. It assisted him with daily needs including money management, cooking and medication reminders. Vista organized events and trips for its members that Rajiv refused to miss.   When asked if he would like to come back to live in New York, Rajiv would respond, "No. I want to go home to Vista."

The funds raised through the Rajiv Malhotra Memorial Fund will be donated to Vista to provide services and training to help adults with disabilities achieve personal success in the areas of work, independence and self- esteem.   In addition, a portion of the donations will provide a scholarship to a student  (or two) who may not otherwise be able to attend the annual Vista trip…something Rajiv always treasured.  My hope is to have all donations in by 3/31/16, but of course, donations in Rajiv’s memory are welcome at anytime. Your support is greatly appreciated.

My parents and I still are coming to terms with Rajiv's death. Its still so unimaginable-- even one year later. By fundraising in his name, we ensure that he is not forgotten. His memory will continue to live on through contributions made by you. No  donation is too small.

In lieu of making a contribution (or in addition thereto), please consider sharing a memory of him and/or our family at http://www.legacy.com/guestbooks/nytimes/rajiv-malhotra-condolences/174306812?cid=full

Thank you in advance for your support.
