One week ago, our beloved Rajah began holding her back left leg off the ground and limping deeply after a jump off the bed. It progressed to the point that she was clearly in pain, so we took her in to the vet today, believing that she tore her ACL. The rug was pulled out from beneath us when our vet returned to the exam room with her x-rays, and in tears herself, showed us the bone cancer tumor.
Anyone who knows Sean or I knows that Rajah is our Queen. She is so much more than just a dog to us- as anyone with a heart for dogs and all that they are understands. I struggle to even put into words her bravery, loyalty, wisdom, and heart. If you’ve ever met her, you know exactly what I’m talking about. She has protected us, watched over us, and fiercely loved us. For all that she has been and still is to us, we owe it to her to give her the best chance we can at enjoying the time she has left for as long as we can.
We never imagined having to reach out and ask for help for something like this, as Rajah has always been a very healthy and low maintenance dog, care-wise. We are hoping to amputate her leg to remove the cancer before it spreads, and buy her some time to enjoy being herself. She is unaware of her condition, and wondering why Mom and Dad are crying. This is a completely unexpected horror that has knocked us off our feet, so we are humbled to ask for help. If you are able to, know that we will be forever grateful.
“A dog has no use for fancy cars, big homes, or designer clothes. A water logged stick will do just fine. A dog doesn't care if you're rich or poor, clever or dull, smart or dumb. Give him your heart and he'll give you his. How many people can you say that about? How many people can make you feel rare and pure and special? How many people can make you feel extraordinary?”
