Raj, Rani, Roopak & Priya - Help Miller Place Fam

Toni, Kristin and Debbie - asking you to help a wonderful Miller Place Family whose home was destroyed by fire on July 4, 2022 at 5am.

Fire starting from the roof / outside, then  ripped through the home of Raj and Rani, 20-year resident of Miller Place as they slept. 

Their daughter Priya and her best friend were also sleeping. 

Their lives were saved by Good Samaritans of Miller Place who happened to be driving on Miller Place Yaphank Rd and look over at the development noticing an alarming amount of smoke coming from a distant home. They changed their route and decided to go into the development to search for the home and ensure the occupants were safe. Raj an Rani’s home is not close to the main road so the Good Samaritan had to really search for the home. 

They found the home which was now ablaze and called 911 as they desperately banged on the door, banged on the windows and blew their horn to alert the family and neighbors. Fire alarms weren’t activated because the fire started from the outside then moved inward. The family woke up and miraculously made it out. 

They are extremely traumatized emotionally, mentally … on every level. The picture shows Raj feeling hopeless as he watched their home burn beyond control. They are fully displaced from their home and have lost just about everything so they are indeed of just about everything. This is even more devastating being a first generation hardworking Indian family in the US with no immediate family in the community for support.

The Sekhon family, including their daughter Priya and son Roopak have been fully embedded in Miller Place for the past 20 years helping to improve our community for all our children through their engagements with the school, donating to charities and giving of their own personal time.

We are asking the Miller Place Community as well as communities near and far to contribute whatever you can to help Raj, Rani, Priya and Roopak feel our love.
