Hi, my name is Raizel Gerlitz and I’m 17 years old! I’m one of eight siblings. I graduated from Bnot Chaya High School in Brooklyn this past year.

My mother, a”h, had a deep love for the State of Israel. She ingrained a love of Israel into each of her kids. As such, it has always been a dream of mine to join the IDF. I love the idea of fighting for my country - knowing that I will be doing what is right.

I was never sure what branch until my sister joined the Air Force. She along with another sibling of mine have served/currently serving for the State of Israel and found it to be the turning point in their lives. I hope that I will be able to experience that and make my mother proud.

I would like to join my sister, Esther, who is now a mechanical engineer for the Israeli Air Force, in joining the service.

I have saved some, but I am pretty far from my goal. I need funds for my flight there, and for the first two weeks I get there. I will be living with Esther in an apartment designated for those that are Lone Soldiers. Esther has offered to help me while I find my way through the army. She will be the person I depend on while I learn my way around Israel, along with the culture, land, and language.
