Raising Support & Awareness for My Family in Lebanon

For those of you who do not already know, I am half Lebanese. My father was born, raised, and buried (may he rest in peace) in Lebanon. My roots run deep. I have spent many summers, winters, and holidays there with my family, grown up eating my teta's cooking, and adorned by the generous love of my aunties, uncles, and cousins. Some of the best memories and moments of my life. Many of my non-Lebanese friends and family have expressed interest in visiting "the pearl of the Middle East" as Lebanon has been known -- but there has never been a politically safe time that has felt stable enough to share the beauty, hospitality, and wonder of this land. We dream of a day there will be extended peace, prosperity, and stability to share the country and culture of Lebanon with the world and our loved ones.

The war that is happening there and in the region is heartbreaking and traumatic on many levels -- mostly to the innocent civilians and communities who want nothing to do with this regional war. In recent indiscriminate bombings, members of my family have lost their homes and are currently displaced. My father (may he ever rest in peace) also had an apartment and storage in this building (pictured) that is completely demolished. In pictures below, you can see the roof on the ground, I cannot upload the videos. My sister and I have lost childhood memories, photos, sentimental things -- all material -- and as devastated as we are, we are also thankful that our families are safe for now. But our aunts and cousins have lost their homes and entire livelihoods. There is likely no recovering anything. In feeling so helpless from afar, I feel called to help in some tangible way.

This campaign is meant to help my family (whose identities will remain protected) during this insanely devastating time. No amount of money will revert this trauma, but I hope that this gesture can show some sense of humanity, solidarity, and support. As they left with very little warning or belongings -- any funds raised will go towards helping them cover their current and emergency living expenses, medicine and medical expenses, necessary belongings/clothing/toiletries, transportation, and towards rebuilding their future.

For a brief description of who this will help:
- My eldest aunt (in her 70s) and two adult daughters (one who is an elementary teacher and one who is disabled)
- My two other aunts (in their 60s + 70s), retired and not currently working -- they have medical expenses and medications that are not easy to get
- My cousin (gov't job) and his wife (who is also a teacher) and their young son, they are trying to immigrate to Canada and start a new life from scratch, but this process is expensive and takes time

Thank you for those of you who read this far and want to contribute! Any amount big or small will make a difference.

For those who want to help but are unable to financially -- your messages, prayers, and support are just as meaningful. Learning the history and truth about current events (not just what media, propaganda, or oppressive systems want us to believe) and sharing with your network is also helpful. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Praying for a peaceful future for us all.
