I'm Kaya Skovdatter. I'm a trans, disabled writer, editor, and publishing professional. (You can find some more info about me here: https://kayaskovdatter.wordpress.com/. And here, though this one involves my dead name: https://mathesonfreelancing.com/)

I'm trying to put together as much of my November rent as early as possible through fundraising because while I generally put rent together through gigs as a freelance editor, I need time to finish my backlog before I take on still more.

(Ideally. Best laid plans, and so on.)

"If you're overloaded on paid work, why can't you pay your rent already?" I hear you ask.

Because one of the downsides of being a freelancer is that sometimes there are long periods of limbo between payments. Be that from individual clients, or corporations. Sometimes you've got the funds stockpiled to cover rent and bills while waiting on things, or doing a lot of smaller gigs. Sometimes not.

Right now, I do not. Indeed, I rarely do. Savings is a lovely idea, but freelance in publishing tends to have rather a feast-or-famine dynamic.

Now, the $1,650 of this fundraiser covers one month of my rent ($1,450 CAD), as well as GoFundMe's cut, and payment processing fees, and a tiny buffer in case those fees are higher than I'm expecting.

And the truth is this: I would desperately love to hit goal on this. But whatever this fundraising does make is that much less I'll have to put together through freelancing. And so all to the good.

I'm deeply grateful for any help people can provide. Whether that's tossing in a couple of bucks to move the tally along, or even just spreading the word. Anything that helps buy me some time is welcome. (I haven't had more than a day off in a go for most of this year at least. It's been all six and sometimes seven day work weeks with a few exceptions.)

Thanks immemsely for listening.
