Help the NHSBSA Sponsor & Name a Guide Dog!

Our staff here at the NHSBSA in Student Services have been raising funds to sponsor a guide dog for the past 12 months. Together with all our colleagues pulling together we have managed to raise £1,200+! We have a 2-year plan to raise £2,500 in order to name and sponsor a guide dog through its initial training. Our team of 150 have agreed on the name Hesketh as this would work for both a boy & girl.

One of the goals from the NHSBSA strategy is that we will make a long term difference to the people and places we work in and with 50,000 hours of volunteering donated to charitable and community organisations, therefore this is just a small snippet of what we are doing to give something and make a difference to someone.

We all take for granted the privilege sight on a daily basis, being born without sight or losing the ability to see, is life changing. We had the pleasure of meeting a someone from the guide dog association who came through to our office to share stories of her journey & gave an insight to how her day to life plays out, the struggles she experiences and the barriers she faces.

One story in particular struck a chord with everyone in attendance, all this lovely lady wanted was to be able to walk her son to school, as she had never had the chance to. Year on year that was something she simply couldn't do, till one day a guide dog became available. Once this had happened her dream of walking her son to school had become a reality. This is just one of the many ways in which this person’s life has changed for the better since having been given their guide dog. Please help us in our cause by donating today, all funds go direct to the guide dog association.

On Saturday March the 8th 2025, A member of the Colleague Engagement Group will walk from Rossall, in Fleetwood, to Lytham & back again, an estimated 56,140 steps, in an attempt to raise funds for this cause.

The journey is 13.2 miles each way
26.4 miles in total
(A marathon is 26.2!)
It's 4 hours 30 each way
With an estimated 56,140 steps
A chest harness will be equipped to capture each step of the journey, which will then be sped up and uploaded onto the page a long with a true step count, route track & time-lapse.

The page itself will remain open in order for us to do further events in the future till our January 2026 deadline of 2 years to raise funds.
