“We are not helping you pay for school anymore because of the lifestyle you are living,” is something I never expected to hear. Several months ago, I came out as openly gay to all of my peers around me. Shortly after that, my relatives and other distant family members found out as well. All have been very loving and supportive in my journey, with the exception of my parents. Up until this point, my parents had been helping me pay for college. Now that I have expressed who I️ am, they have decided to cut themselves off from helping with college entirely. Since I am too young, I cannot sign a loan for myself. I also have no relatives who would be able to co-sign for a loan with me. This leaves me with no other options to pay for an education other than to drop out for a little while, which is an absolutely devastating thought.
Why Help Is Needed
I am a student athlete who plays soccer and studies as a full time student here at CMU. My role has included being a Varsity/JV soccer player on a team that won a conference championship, a diligent student, and a best friend to the amazing people I have built relationships with here. Because I am gay, my parents are attempting to restrict me from going to school here. I would love to beat this subtle yet detrimental discrimination and come out a successful young lady with a hard earned education under her belt. This is not about a gay human being, this is about a human being trying to save her education so she can make a life for herself.
Every last dollar of any money donated to this fund will go straight towards the cost of tuition, room/board, and books needed for classes. This should total around $13,000. My goal for this fund is $12,000 because I have already set in place multiple jobs this summer where I will also work towards paying for my education.
I am not one to ask for money, no one enjoys being in a position of need like this. People typically can't understand the feeling of being in serious need like this until it happens to them, which is what has happened to me here unfortunately. Instead of being a victim to discrimination, I am working as hard as I can to overcome this adversity so I can create a life for myself and my future family someday.
Money is always appreciated, but what I need more than ever is prayer and love. I am putting this fund out there to not only help me create a life for myself, but to also raise awareness of how important things such as an education and a supportive family are. For whoever is reading, thank you for reading about this chapter of my life. Whether you do or don't decide to contribute financially, thank you for simply clicking and being made aware. And most of all, thank you to God for getting me this far and giving me these opportunities.
Please feel free to message me for more details about my journey as I will try to keep everyone updated!
