Help Us Support Babies and their Families in the Special Care Baby Unit.
Hi, I’m a neonatal nurse working on the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at Conquest Hospital, where I’ve been part of the team for just over five years. I truly love my job, my team, and the incredibly important work we do, caring for premature and unwell babies and supporting families through one of the most stressful times of their lives.
Like many areas of the NHS, our unit is under huge financial pressure. While essential care always comes first, there are vital things that funding simply doesn’t stretch to, and that’s why I’m raising money for our unit.
What I'm Raising Money For:
Essential Equipment for Our Babies
We are in urgent need of updated and additional equipment that plays a vital role in the care of our most vulnerable babies, including:
Hot cots – essential for keeping premature and poorly babies warm and stable
Phototherapy units – used daily to safely and effectively treat neonatal jaundice
These are pieces of equipment we rely on every single day, yet replacing or upgrading them is increasingly difficult with current funding constraints.
Improving Parent Rooms
Parents often spend days, weeks, sometimes months on SCBU. Our parent rooms are where they rest, express milk, catch up on sleep, bond with their baby, and take a moment away from the ward when things feel overwhelming.
At the moment, these rooms are very clinical and basic. With your support, we want to make them feel more homely, calming, and supportive, somewhere parents can feel comforted and cared for during an incredibly emotional time.
I’m Running to Raise Awareness and Funds ♀️
To help raise awareness and funds, I’ve committed to running 60km across a series of races, finishing with the Hastings Half Marathon in March 2026. I’m hoping people might consider sponsoring me and supporting this cause that means so much to me and my colleagues.
Every Donation Makes a Difference
Whether your donation helps fund:
vital equipment that supports life-saving care
or creates a more comforting space for parents
please know that every contribution will directly benefit babies and families on our unit.
Thank you so much for reading, sharing, donating, and supporting us it truly means more than I can say.
With love and gratitude,
Aimee
Neonatal Nurse, SCBU – Conquest Hospital

Thank You
I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated, shared the page, sent messages of support, or cheered me on along the way. The kindness and generosity shown so far has been genuinely overwhelming, and it truly means so much — to me personally and to the whole SCBU team.
Because of your support, we’ve already been able to make real progress, including successfully sourcing additional z-beds for parents, ensuring more families have somewhere to rest close to their baby. Seeing these small but meaningful changes happen has been incredibly motivating and shows just how powerful this support is.
Race Update ♀️
I’m also proud to say that all of the races so far have now been completed, thank you to everyone who has sponsored me through each one!
The final big race will be the Hastings Half Marathon on 22nd March 2026, which will mark the end of this fundraising journey and the biggest challenge yet.
If you’re able to donate, sponsor, or share ahead of the final race, it would mean the world. Every step I take in March is for the babies and families we care for on SCBU.
