Raising money in memory of Lisa Birtwistle

On 25th September, I will be doing Fleetwood Triathlon. I was meant to be doing this with my lovely friend, Lisa Birtwistle. She would have beat me hands down without a bead of sweat on her face, but she would have helped me train, kept me focussed, and supported me all the way through.

Lisa and her children, Mya and Theo, came and watched me complete last years’ triathlon. They stood and watched whilst I did the bike, then ran from transition with me to help me start my run, and waited clapping and cheering at the finishing line. I was blown away by her support, giving me that massive smile she had as I ran the final part. I can still hear her shouting, Come onnnn April!!

Lisa devastatingly passed away in March of this year. She left behind her beautiful children, and her lovely family. She left a massive hole in everyone’s hearts She was the most positive, bubbly person with an infectious laugh, and she is missed every single day.

I wanted to still do this years triathlon, even though she won’t be by my side, for her. She will spur me on every step of the way, and I want her family to know how much we all love her.

Mya and Theo were her world, and so whilst doing this, I wanted to try and raise some money to go towards their future. I know people are so desperate to be able to help the family in some way, and so raising money for the kids, whilst doing an event me and Lisa had decided to do, seemed fitting (I asked Lisa’s mum for her blessing with this.)

Lisa was a massive inspiration to me, as I know she was to others. She made me want to better myself. She spurred me on with my fitness, and encouraged me at every turn. She made me laugh till it hurt and I clicked with her the second I met her.

I want to do this for her, and for her lovely kids.
