Half marathon run by 2 Girls 4 women in Gaza

My friend Elvira and I (Celeste) have set up this GoFundMe to raise money for women and girls in Gaza who are in need of sanitary products, as a gesture of solidarity towards women and girls in conflicts everywhere who are deprived of their basic rights and dignity. We will be donating all proceeds to ActionAid, an international NGO, that will then supply them with hygiene kits to support their menstrual needs, as part of their Gaza Appeal.

The compounding effect of war

Gaza is in a state of humanitarian crisis, and people are suffering from a lack of basic resources like food, water and sanitary facilities.

But women, already being one of the most vulnerable societal groups, are facing an additional layer of hardship: according to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), nearly 700’000 menstruating women and girls in Gaza have inadequate access to sanitary products, and the UN “cannot meet the high demand for hygiene kits”.

Why this lack of access?

Closure of most stores and pharmacies

Difficulty for NGOs to deliver products due to high risk

Some families might regard sanitary products as a secondary need amidst the crisis

Sanitary products have got more expensive due to the low stock: One pack costs around 20 shekels, or more than $5.

We have therefore set up this GoFundMe to:

Raise awareness of the need for sanitary products in Gaza

Run half a marathon each, and collect donations for ActionAid, specifically for hygiene kits to be sent to Gaza.
