Hi, we are Laura & Rob and we are reaching out for some help for our boy Stanley.

Stanley is a rescue. He's 10 years old.

Back in 2018 he was playing with his brother when we heard a yelp. After taking him to the vets we were told he had a luxating patela. Meaning his kneecap was loose and slipping up and down. We paid £2800 for the operation. The vet said he should recover well with no further surgery or physio needed. Everything was fine until a few months later when the pin in his knee came loose.

We took him back to the vets and they said he'll be fine, pins do come loose but as it's not causing any other issues, it's best to leave it. So we did.

About a year ago, we noticed Stanley's knee was poking out in a weird way. We took him to our new vets and they said he will likely need the operation again, that the first vets had botched it and the knee could go back to being how it was in 2018. As Stanley wasn't in pain, they suggested monitoring it for a while to see how it goes but they weren't hopeful.

Just before Christmas 2025 we noticed Stanley was panting a lot more. So we took him to the vets. They confirmed he needs the operation again. They told us it would be a minimum of £2500 plus any after care.

We have tried to remortgage the house the get the funds but keep getting set backs. Due to the house being in Laura's name, we have to put Rob on it too. But to do that we need £600. Which we just don't have right now. We are a single income household. Laura is a full time mother to our son. She is disabled and our son has additional needs.

Rob was made redundant back in 2024 and has had to take what work he can get, currently he is doing agency work until something more permanent comes up.

Whilst we aren't struggling day to day £2500+ just isn't available to us right now.

We have never done anything like this before and really don't like asking for money. We have exhausted every possible route we could take. But this is our last resort. We appreciate any and all help that we can get.
