MEDLIFE
MEDLIFE is a sustainable non-profit organization that delivers medical, educational, and developmental aid to communities in need in Latin America. MEDLIFE prioritizes listening to socioeconomically disadvantaged communities, finding the root causes for the lack of aid, providing high-quality care, emphasizing collaboration between volunteers and locals, and being transparent to instill confidence in its donors.
Why We Care
From January 8th-16th, 2022, our Harvard chapter of 60 student volunteers will serve rural communities in Lima, Perú.
We work at the local level in our Cambridge area and work at a global level with MEDLIFE to support communities near and far that have difficulty accessing healthcare. Through our mobile medical clinic, we will triage patients, assist local licensed doctors and dentists, educate on public health, and support pharmacists. Because we understand public health is crucial for welfare, we will work on a local community project (i.e. building staircases, building bathrooms, etc.) to address health-related issues in our specific community.
Through supporting the Harvard chapter of MEDLIFE, you are supporting the belief that people worldwide deserve the fundamental right of health care accessibility. Though we may be only students for now, in our future careers as doctors, policymakers, and wherever life takes us, we are confident that our experience from MEDLIFE will shape how we view our world and transform how we interact with the individuals around us.
Our Mission:
Our mission is to build a worldwide movement empowering the poor in their fight for equal access to health care, education and a safe home.
Our Vision:
A world free from the constraints of poverty.
Our Focus:
MEDLIFE believes that in order to improve the overall health and welfare of families and communities in need, a comprehensive approach is needed. With this goal in mind, MEDLIFE seeks to deliver aid through three broad avenues: Medicine, Education, and Development.
Our Patient Follow-Up Program
When patients are simply referred to local hospitals for treatments many times they still fail to receive the actual treatment they need due to lack of resources, lack of confidence, or lack of a true understanding of their medical problems.
For all of these reasons, MEDLIFE has developed a year-round patient follow-up process where we support our patients in many ways. We provide financial resources for treatments, emotional support, nutritional assistance for malnourished families, and educational resources to help individuals better understand their conditions.
The Impact Of Your Generosity
In 2020, over 30 Harvard students went to Tena, Ecuador, during which we gained direct experience with healthcare delivery in a resource-poor setting and worked with locals to complete tasks with the purpose of building community. Even though these communities have difficulty accessing proper health care, we were able to help bring medical aid to them and see several hundred patients.
This year, with MEDLIFE, we hope to accomplish even more than what we were able to last year. Please help us accomplish this goal by funding our campaign! Your donations will help students pay for trip expenses and medical supplies!
