In January 2026, Matthew Mason lost his beloved wife Hayley. Their beautiful 12-year-old daughter, Lily-May, lost her mum. No family is ever prepared for that kind of heartbreak.
Hayley had already endured more than most. In 2017 she received the devastating early morning call that her eldest daughter had been involved in a fire, spending four long months by her bedside in hospital. The trauma of that time led to diagnoses of PTSD and fibromyalgia. In 2018, while grieving the loss of her dad to lung cancer, Hayley also suffered the heartbreak of an ectopic pregnancy after being told she may never conceive naturally.
Through everything, Hayley remained devoted to her family. She and Matthew had fought so hard to become parents, choosing IVF so they could welcome their miracle, Lily-May, into the world in July 2013. Lily-May was and always will be the centre of Hayley’s world.
In November 2025, Hayley found a small lump in her breast. After weeks of waiting and tests over the Christmas period, she was admitted to hospital on 11th January 2026 and told she had breast cancer. Tragically, further scans revealed a mass on her liver. Just days later, on 23rd January, Hayley was told she was receiving end of
life care. On 28th January, surrounded by her loved ones, Hayley passed away.
Matthew is now navigating life without his soulmate of nearly two decades and supporting Lily-May as she tries to understand life without her mum. The coming months will be incredibly difficult as they adjust to a new and painful reality.
We are raising funds to help ease some of the financial pressures Matthew may face, allowing him the time and space to grieve, to be present for Lily-May, and to focus on healing without the immediate burden of everyday costs.
Any donation, no matter how small, will make a difference. If you are unable to give, please consider sharing this page.
Thank you for your kindness, love and support during this unimaginable time.
