I share this with a very heavy heart and deepest gratitude. Manny was in a life-threatening accident at Lake Shasta on Friday afternoon. He has a serious cervical spine injury and underwent emergency surgery to fuse his vertebrae together and repair his arteries so that he can begin to heal. We are at Mercy Hospital in Redding and will be here until he is ready to be moved to a rehabilitation center in Santa Clara.
Everyone who knows Manny knows how strong he is and he is fighting really hard to get better. He can't speak yet because he's on a ventilator to help him breathe, however he is conscious, has full cognitive functioning, and is communicating with us and his nurses using facial expressions and movements. His positive spirit and sense of humor shine through, despite everything he's going through, in the moments when he smiles and makes funny faces or dances with his shoulders to get us to laugh.
He is currently unable to feel or move his hands and lower body, however we remain very hopeful that with time, treatment, and prayers, he will regain full control and mobility. When he arrived at the hospital he was paralyzed from the neck down, however he is now able to feel and move his arms and upper chest/back. He started physical therapy today and is doing a great job shrugging his shoulders and lifting his arms. His progress in this short amount of time is not only remarkable, it is truly miraculous. We are praying and believing with all our hearts that he will continue to make miracles and will regain his ability to walk.
The road to recovery will be long and challenging, but we know we will get through this together. Thank you so much for all of your prayers, love, healing energies, support, calls, texts, emails, hugs, visits, and more. We deeply appreciate it and feel incredibly blessed to have such a supportive community of family and friends. Through our relationships with all of you, and your relationships with others, people of many faiths and in many parts of the world are praying for Manny. Words cannot express our deep gratitude for all your prayers and love. We feel them and they are working. Please keep praying. Together we will continue to manifest miracles for Manny.
