Raising Money for Kid's Cancer

Donation protected
For as long as I can remember my hair has been a big part of my life. As a young girl my parents would sit me in front of the mirror in my kitchen at 7:00am before school and brush my tangled mess of thin blonde hair whilst I screamed and carried on. I remember my mother chopping off all my hair because it was too difficult to look after. I had a short haircut similar to something directly out of the 90s and all the kids at school would taunt me and ask me that one question that stuck with me, ten years later; are you a boy or a girl?
Since when has what hairstyle you have define your gender? At the time it seemed crazy to me and it still does seem crazy.
Although the idea of gender and what makes you what you are has come a long way we are still not quite there.

As I became older, my hair began to change, reflecting what I wanted to be seen as. But as I cut my hair shorter and shorter the questions that bothered me so many years ago started popping back up again.
"Short hair isn't very feminine"
"You look so much prettier with long hair"
"Short hair is for boys"
So I have decided to try and change people's minds.
It's very difficult to change an entire community's perspective of something that was drilled into them, and their parent's and their parent's parent's but I guess you have to start somewhere right? I will be raising money for Kids' Cancer because I know that hair is important to all little boy's and girl's lives and how difficult it must be to lose an important part of your personality, something that plays a big role in how you express yourself.

Please join me to raise $1000 before the 2nd of January, the 2rd anniversary of my mother's death from lung cancer, the day I plan to shave my head.
