Hi my name is Jay, want to join me in making a difference? I’m raising money to support Epilepsy Scotland, and any donation will help make a real impact. Thank you so much in advance for supporting a cause that means a great deal to me.
In October 2025, at just 21 years old, I was diagnosed with epilepsy after experiencing three tonic-clonic seizures. This diagnosis came completely out of the blue, with no family history and no signs throughout my childhood. Both my family and I had to quickly readjust to this new reality. In those first few weeks, I lost a lot of my independence while adapting to medication and its side effects. It also had a huge impact on my mental health and how I viewed my future.
Thankfully, the medication I’m now on has helped bring my seizures under better control, although this isn’t the case for everyone living with epilepsy. I want to turn this difficult experience into something positive by raising awareness and sharing my story.
On Saturday 21st March, in the lead-up to Purple Day on 26th March, I plan to complete a challenging walk following the circuit of the four Munros, Glas Maol. Purple Day is dedicated to supporting people with epilepsy and spreading awareness by challenging the stigma and stereotypes surrounding the condition. Through this walk, I hope to raise funds for Epilepsy Scotland while also doing something positive for both the charity and myself.
Epilepsy is about far more than the stereotype of flashing lights triggering seizures. It affects people in many different ways, and everyone’s experience and how it impacts their life will differ.
