Help Basmala and Her Family Survive and Rebuild Their Lives
Basmala Al-Hasanat is a 20-Year-Old from Gaza with unshakeable hope.
-
'My name is Basmala, and I'm a 20-year-old from Gaza with a dream that keeps me going through the darkest times: to become a doctor so I can treat my disabled brother and help others in need.'
Their Story
'During the recent conflict, my family lost everything. Our home was destroyed, and we've been displaced multiple times, constantly searching for safety. We've endured days under bombardment and siege with barely any food or water, moving from place to place as tanks advance and shelling continues through the night.'
'My younger brother has a disability affecting his leg and right hand. Due to the ongoing blockade, getting him the medical treatment he desperately needs has become nearly impossible. Watching him struggle while being unable to help him properly breaks my heart every day.'
'My younger sisters, who should be focused on their education and childhood, are now suffering from anemia and severe nutritional deficiencies. After being deprived of schooling throughout the war, they've recently started attending classes again in camps, determined to continue learning despite everything we've faced.'
Her Dream Remains Alive
'Despite everything we've endured, I will not give up on my dream of becoming a doctor. I want to help my brother walk without pain, treat my sisters' nutritional deficiencies, and serve my community's medical needs. Your support helps keep this dream alive while ensuring my family's immediate survival.'
The Crisis
There is a shortage of rice and pasta supplies in Gaza and there is a constant risk of them running out.
Basmala and her family have had to evacuate multiple times, most recently from Deir al-Balah as the military situation worsened. They are currently living between camps, with an uncertainty of when they may have to pack up and flee again.
How Your Donation Will Help
Your contribution will provide:
- Essential food supplies - rice, pasta, bread ingredients, and nutritious food to combat malnutrition
- Clean water - a basic necessity that's become precious and scarce
- Medical care - treatment and medications for their brother's disability.
- Educational support - helping Basmala and her sisters continue their studies despite displacement
Goal: $2,000
This amount will provide ongoing support for Basmalah and Family during these critical times. Every dollar helps with another day of food, clean water and medicine.
Campaign organised by Abigail Potter on behalf of Basmala and her family. All funds will be transferred directly to support their immediate needs.

Update September 2025
-
⛰️ ❤️ Hey beautiful people ✨
I am taking on the challenge of hiking the UK's highest peak, Ben Nevis, on the 20th of September. This climb is a personal milestone as it will be my first ever mountain hike, but first and foremost it will be in the effort to support and raise money for an incredible young woman from Gaza who dreams of becoming a medical professional.
Despite facing unimaginable grief, Basmala has remained steadfast in her studies and has kept her dream alive through it all. Since fleeing their home and having to survive war, her family has had to use what was once saved for education on survival. Your donation would help to cover university loans and fees in order to protect her future and allow her to make it to Cairo without facing any consequences. Your support can make a significant difference to her life and future.
Please consider donating through this GofundMe if you are able.
Thank you for taking the time to visit my page and for your generosity in helping someone rewrite their story and achieve their dreams. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with any questions you may have.
With love, Basmala and Abi x
