Hi, My name is Gemma & I’m fundraising in memory of my brother Christopher Whittaker who sadly passed in November 2023 due to his condition Duchennes Muscular Dystrophy at the age of 28. We have organised a fundraising event for November 1st but prior to this I would like to raise some money by donating my hair. My hair will be going to the princess trust & all money raised will be going towards what we raise November 1st and then we will donate all the money together.
I’ll be cutting my hair at the Golden Jubilee Yarm, 26th July at 3pm. Anyone is welcome to come & watch and possibly watch me cry with the amount that is getting cut off!!
I’ll explain briefly about Duchennes..
Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a muscle wasting condition that causes progressive muscle weakness. It usually only affects boys but in rare cases it affects girls. It’s caused by a lack of a protein called dystrophin. This causes muscle fibres to break down. They’re replaced by fibrous or fatty tissues that cause the muscle to gradually weaken. DMD is the severe type of MD and shortens life expectancy.
Thank you so much
