Hi, we are Lexi and Abbie and together we are raising money for Headway
https://www.headway.org.uk/ the charity that helps people living with brain injuries.
During the month of November 2025 we will be running every day for Headway. The plan is to complete 200km between us, and will be inviting friends and family members to join us as we hit the streets during November. We will be documenting our progress on social media (@RunningForHeadway) so you can see how we're getting on. Please consider sponsoring us as we undertake this challenge - even donating a couple of pounds will help us reach our target of 500 pounds.
One of our close friends, and Abbie’s boyfriend Dan suffered a traumatic brain injury this summer while cycling to college in Sheffield. He was involved in a serious collision and as a result of his injuries spent more than 3 months in hospital recovering. It may seem an odd thing to say but Dan was one of the lucky ones. He has made a good recovery despite the severity of his injuries and multiple surgeries he underwent, and is expected to live pretty much a normal life thanks to the care and support he received. Not everyone who suffers a similar brain injury is so lucky. Lexi's dad, Andy, was knocked off his bike while on holiday in Majorca in 2014. The injuries he suffered took months to recover from and resulted in epilepsy and vascular dementia which ultimately shortened his life. He sadly died of an epileptic seizure in November 2019.
Dan and Andy aren't alone. In the UK each year around 1.4 million people attend hospital with a head injury, and around 200,000 of them are admitted for treatment. Though most will make a recovery, the results of their brain injuries can mean they experience long term health problems, both mental and physical. That's where Headway can help. Please sponsor us to help more people like Dan and Andy as they face life with a brain injury. Thank you!
