Raising Happy Kids | 2017

Happy Kids cares for 60 vulnerable children and educates 180 students in a rural village of Ghana. As our children grow and more children knock on our door asking for support, we face needs and resource gaps, challenges, and roadblocks that are frankly...endless. There are many ways one can get involved in helping us raise our children via donations, volunteering or simply being informed. We all start somewhere and together, we can change the world.

Let's introduce you to Happy Kids, shall we?

Happy Kids is a grassroots organization managed by one team in two countries -  the Ghanaian leadership team and teachers in HoHoe work hand in hand with the American board members, advisers, volunteers, and advocates to sustain our mission:

Empower a small group of vulnerable children in rural Ghana and address poverty at its root. We do so through education, well-rounded child development and collaboration with the local community.

Our American partnership was established in 2010 - in many ways, we're still a young organization.  So young in fact, that many of our initiatives are running on pilot programs as they've never been done before - not in our school, and not in the surrounding community.

To put some context on just how young of an organization we are, 2016 marked the first generation of Happy Kids old enough to go to secondary school (comparable to high school in the states). We have 9 children in their first and second years of secondary school now and with each passing term, more children will be eligible to continue their education. The Volta Region where Happy Kids is located has 71 schools and our school is ranked #10 in secondary school entry exams (as of 2017). Secondary school costs money in Ghana (approx. $1,000 USD per child per year - secondary school is 3-4 years).

The funds from "Raising Happy Kids" will provide support for secondary school in addition to addressing the immediate needs of our children. Every single aspect of child development and growth for Happy Kids needs support. While our dream is to create a self-sustaining foundation, U.S. donations are necessary for raising our children and teaching them the skills they need for empowerment and self-generated income.
