5/18/2024 UPDATE: No words could express our gratitude for the limitless amount of love and support you have shown. Your efforts and consistency allowed Kevin to be transported by air safely back home to Charleston SC.
With a heavy heart, we want to inform you that Mr. Kevin LaMont White, Jr., 35, of Ladson, SC, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 14, 2024.
5/10/2024 UPDATE: Thank you all for your continued support and love you have shown Kevin. We have increased the donation limit at this time, as we are needing additional funds to fulfill a special request. Kevin is currently receiving treatment in Houston, but the doctors at MD Anderson have recommended he go home to Charleston to receive hospice care. The only way to safely transport Kevin home is with a medical flight that needs to be properly staffed and equipped. It is our wish to get Kevin home safely and as soon as possible so he may be as comfortable as he can be. We appreciate all the generosity and graciousness you have shown, and hope that with your continued support we will be able to successfully bring him home to Charleston.
Meet Kevin White, Jr. A North Charleston, SC local elementary school teacher, varsity football coach, D1 college athlete, and hometown hero who is battling stage 4 Epithelioid Angiosarcoma. After being diagnosed and beating breast cancer in 2016 at only 27 years old, Kevin thought he could finally live a normal and healthy life. Unfortunately, in 2022 his world was turned upside down yet again when he learned a hematoma mass on his hamstring was positively identified as cancerous. A very rare tissue cancer that had spread, unbeknownst to him, to his lungs and bones. At just 34 years old, Kevin can no longer do the mundane activities he used to such as grocery shopping or driving his car due to the pain he is in. Numerous chemotherapy and radiation appointments now fill his once-active and social days. He is currently fighting a negative reaction from the radiation and chemo combination which has immobilized him, where he has to use crutches to walk, and has trouble sleeping at night due to excruciating pain. Medical bills have all but consumed him, and seem to be never ending.
Facing more surgeries, and what could be endless doctor visits and treatment plans, Kevin is having trouble staying positive but still does his best to bring light to those around him. Born and raised in North Charleston, he is well known by locals who watched him grow up. He now coaches the winning team he once played for. He is a Fort Dorchester High School Hall of Fame member, a University of South Carolina Football player and alumnus, and an incredible educator. It seems impossible to put into perspective how amazing Kevin is, but his fellow church parishioners, elementary school teachers, coaches and friends can all speak to his strength, perseverance and honor.
If you are able, please consider donating to this cause, as anything helps. If you are not, please share this with people you may know. We are trying to help in any way we can.
Thank you for taking the time to read just a little bit of Kevin's story.
Thank you to everyone who has been so generous with their donations. You have no idea how grateful and appreciative we are.
