Hi everyone,
My name is Rachel McDonald, and I’m reaching out for help for my mom and brother in Jamaica, whose home and community was damaged by Hurricane Melissa. The storm has caused severe landslides, leaks in our roof, broke several windows, water damage to floor and furniture and left parts of their home unsafe and exposed to the weather.
Over the past few days , many of you have reached out asking how you could help — and I truly appreciate your kindness. I decided to create this GoFundMe as a way for anyone who wants to support to do so easily and directly.
I live in Canada, and being so far away has left me feeling helpless. My. family lives in a not so easy to reach area so is being overlooked and missed by relief aids given to the community. I’m planning to travel down to Jamaica, however, I have been advised to not go right away so I am planning on going at the end of the month or December to help them repair and rebuild. The funds raised will go toward:
• Travel expenses so I can get there and help in person and be with my family and friends.
•Fixing roof leaks and broken windows
•Painting and repair supplies to restore the house
•Basic tools and materials for rebuilding and cleanup and fix landslides
