The Parents Association and School Community of St. John Bosco Community College, Kildysart, Co. Clare are fundraising to enable the purchase of a chrome cart with 30 chromebooks for our school.
In the past two years, students from all schools have experienced a total of two school closures. During these closures there was an expectation for all students to engage in school through the use of technology. Many students struggled to engage due to poor internet access or lack of availability of digital devices in their homes.
On their return to school, a digital divide became very apparent in all schools. The digital divide describes the gap between people who have access to affordable, reliable Internet service (and the skills and gadgets necessary to take advantage of that access) and those who lack it.
An ICT grant was made available to schools to try to address this issue.
St. John Bosco Community College purchased 36 Chromebooks for our students to use in general classrooms. Our students have described these devices as a game changer in their education, creating opportunities for all students to gain access to online resources, engage in Google Classroom to receive and submit work to their teachers and to enable students to work together on live projects as part of their coursework.
We believe increasing the availability of technology for our students increases their opportunity to succeed.
Help us to digitally enable our students and smash the digital divide!
