M.E is a 16 year-old boy is full of love and full of life. Like any other teenage boy, he attends school, studies, and spends time with friends and family. Unfortunately, M.E doesn’t feel like any other teenage boys his age. He suffers from an abnormality known as Microtia. Microtia is a condition present at birth, developed in the first trimester of pregnancy. This condition happens when the external ear doesn’t fully form, in M.E’s case his right ear, leaving him with a series of critical symptoms. These symptoms include dizziness, severe headaches, high fever, loss of balance, and hearing loss from the affected ear from a fairly close distance. These symptoms have been intensifying for the past year, severely affecting his mental and physical health state. In addition to these symptoms, M.E also has a developed cyst in his maxillary sinus, affecting the pressure in his ear, along with a buildup of fluid in his ear which needs to be drained.
In order for M.E to get the complete and proper care, he must undergo three procedures. The first procedure is a myringotomy, which is a surgical incision made in the eardrum to drain the fluid, relieving the pressure in his ear. The second procedure is a tympanostomy, which is a surgical procedure inserting ear tubes for extra drainage, significantly reducing the risk of recurring fluid buildup. M.E will then undergo his third and final procedure, which is an ear reconstruction surgery. The surgeon will create a new ear for M.E from his own body tissue, with an outcome of a functioning ear, relieving him of the symptoms he faces everyday.
The total cost of M.E’s reconstructive journey is
28,000 CAD. Due to his family’s financial crisis, the total cost is outstanding. M.E and his family are in desperate need of some helping hands to help avoid further health problems and get his procedures done in the quickest time possible.
