We are the crew of The Black Dog Bistro, in Manotick (Ottawa), Ontario.

A colleague and friend, Simeron Novak has been a long time fixture in the hospitality industry, notable at Rodney's Oyster House in Toronto, and The Whalesbone Oyster House in Ottawa.

In recent years he has opened oysters with us at The Black Dog Bistro here in Manotick.

Simeron and his family reside in Perth, Ontario.

This beautiful family is made up of Simeron, his wife Jesse, and their 2 boys - Magnus (10) and Sasa(6).

In April they learned that their 10 year old son, Magnus has been diagnosed with a childhood cancer called a Neuroblastoma.

The path for Magnus will be a long one - with many therapies, appointments and procedures.

Time off from work is a reality for both Simeron and Jesse, and of course time off from work results in no pay.

This is where we hope that generous hearts and hands can reach out with a little bit to help.

The financial impact of childhood cancer treatments can be significant, with families often facing high costs for medications, hospitalization, and travel.

Here are some common expenses associated with childhood cancer treatments in Canada:

  • Medications: New therapies can cost tens of thousands annually, and some drugs may not be covered by insurance.

  • Hospitalization: Patients may need to spend considerable time in the hospital, which can incur parking fees or private room fees.

  • Transportation: Costs for travel to and from appointments, as well as home care services, can add up quickly.

  • Lost Income: Time off work due to treatment can lead to lost wages, adding to the financial burden.

Sadly this is a reality for the Novak family - so please, lets make an exceptional effort to raise some funds in hopes of reducing some of the stress, and burdens that they may be feeling in this difficult time in their lives.

On November 19, 2025 we will be hosting an in house event to raise funds for the Novak family. Please join if you are able.

This GoFundMe platform is intended to enable those who cannot attend, or wish to give more the opportunity to do so.

Thank you in advance for your generosity, and best wishes.
