The Fight Against Cancer:
As some of you may know, these past few months have been extremely difficult for me. My best friend, strongest supporter, and the sole woman responsible for making me who I am today and what I dream of accomplishing in the future -- has been diagnosed, once again, with cancer.
It is with my deepest regret to say that this time the cancer is now terminal. After her initial diagnosis in 2017, she underwent surgery to remove the tumour in her lung. Following shortly after, like a champ, she survived through numerous sessions of chemotherapy.
However, we recently discovered the cancer has returned, only this time more viciously and at a rapid exponential rate. Now, the cancer has made its way through the lymph nodes and into her brain. Radiation treatment may no longer be available as an option due the excess amount of lesions spread throughout her brain.
My mom has decided to accept God's plan after having persevered the fight against cancer.
The Request of your Kind Support:
So, I asked my mom to give me 10 things on a piece of paper of what she wants to do or maybe where she wants to go before she dies. After a day, or two, or three, she came up with this:
1. Tattoo eyeliner (permanent make-up) --- She says that when she is sick and in the hospital she still wants to look good for visitors as well as the hospital staff.
2. To be buried next to the graves of her family members, at Rose Hills Cemetery in San Gabriel Valley. She says she doesn't want to be buried next to strangers because she doesn't speak very good English.
3. To see me reach my goals of becoming a trial lawyer. But more importantly, witness me helping people like her (the indigent population who are poor and of in need).
I told her I can't promise to fulfil #3 by the time she passes, but I made a promise to her that it will be my priority after her time finally comes.
As for #1 and #2, I am sharing with you my whole-hearted request for your support in helping me achieve her wishes. Any support in the form of thoughts, prayers, and/or financial contribution will forever be appreciated.
She is my inspiration, my everything, and your kindness will never be forgotten.
**On a side note -- At UC Riverside, I made a big shout out to my mom toward the end of my commencement speech -- even though the ceremonial staff advised that personal "shout-outs" were strictly prohibited. Regardless of this warning, I did it anyway. I knew it would install in her memory, a moment of my appreciation and gratitude for everything she's done -- serving not only as a best friend and mother, but also taking the forefront as a father role too.
